It is also about crucifying the flesh though, which ties back into self. Subduing the flesh is how you separate from it. This is why fasting is a thing. Denying the flesh (physical), and denying self (metaphysical). These are the things that we are made of in the physical 3D realm/space/prison. Spirit is the next level up, 4D. Its not something that we can see or understand, bc we are locked down to this 3rd dimension, XYZ. 4th dimension adds an axis, one at a right angle to all 3 axis, which we cannot comprehend, but it exists. This is all something I can explain more in depth if you're into what I'm saying, but simply put, feeling is spiritual, thinking is fleshly. For instance, if "God did not give us the spirit of fear.", then we can deduce from this that feeling/emotion is of the spirit, because fear is a feeling/emotion. Thinking about that fear is called worrying, and Jesus tells us not to worry. Why? Bc it's of the flesh and ego. So when approaching Jesus, you want to be coming from intuition and feeling to really be tuned in. This is a non-salvific issue again, I'm just trying to help you understand the concept I've been trying to articulate, bc it seemed like that stuck a chord with you. You're not gonna hear this stuff in Church, but it is how he has dealt with me, and showed me how to be more in alignment with Him. And it works. Knowing the difference between the inner voice of your ego and the Lord is a game changer.
