I agree with both of you. Obviously I am proud to be American still, even if I wasn't always. There is a clear distinction between being proud of where you were born and loving your fellow citizens. And love for the corrupt government that has grown too large and gotten out of control. A people are not their government.

Yeah I think unfortunately why propaganda works so well is peoples natural tribalism. Europeans call the USA uncultured and retarded etc, make fun of the government over reach. But that is not the soul of the people I have lived with my entire life. Just as Americans also make the same mistake of shitting on Europe or other countries calling them shit holes or whatever when in reality they are not.
