I too miss the firefly's. It's been a noticeable decrease in their population every year for decades. At least in my area.

I remember spring and summer nights where the night air would be filled as far as the eye could see by thousands of firefly's

ikr, 😓 really sad, it was like the stars on earth even in the slice of urban/suburban S.Jersey i grew up in back in 90s try to describe lightining summer bugs to youngsters nowadays by comparing it to like seeing the night sky lit at sea, but with light pollution most people can't even imagine or literally see how beautiful a clear night's sky is... you'd have to be a sailor or maybe passenger on cruiseship
