Ahh, I like Alan Watts, that is where I get a lot of my "philosophy" from also. I heard he was/is a CIA asset, but his takes on life are pretty spot on. Bukowski is brutal realism, he definitely could have done better in his life to change his situation but living in a big "dead" city is what he picked. I think knowing your neighbors goes a long way to "being" a good human.

Isolation and peace can be too attractive. There is a danger of knowing too much about people which can lead in avoiding them completely. With neighbors... probably best just to know enough to like them and to be helpful. Comradery can backfire if it turns sour and you can't easily escape people that live next to you:)
