We finally calm down, and through some cooperation and the strategic use of some nearby trapped logs we were able to forge a way to the shore of the river. We crawled up on the shore, and came to our senses after fighting millions of gallons of moving water.

What to do now but walk back to Bill's vehicle, completely defeated? So we began. We were already extremely deep into a national forest, so the walk back the vehicle was going to be close to 10 miles of dirt/gravel road and I no longer had shoes. Neat.

Now, keep in mind, we are out in the wilderness. There are no houses nearby for miles and miles, or so we thought. We're walking down the road, still kind of arguing with eachother and not paying attention when two dark shapes seemingly detach themselves from the vegetation along the road. I am scared. My eyes quickly focus and I realize Bill and I are face to face with two tweaker poachers, bows drawn and arrows fletched, ready to release them into our chest.

I wager we were hiking around in their "area". The poachers quickly lost their surface level aggression when they realized we were soaking wet and missing shoes, and probably weren't the elk they were looking for.

They wanted us to come back to their hut to get warmed up and dried off, and honestly I would have rather had hypothermia but it's hard to disagree with armed strangers in the wilderness.

With the fire lit, I had a little bit to be thankful for. It really was a roaring fire. Warmth.

Then the situation starts to get weirder if that's even possible. Once again, under implied coercion of violence we were told to strip down to dry off quicker. They were going to make us some food.

Off one of the tweakers went and soon they returned, with some slabs of meat. I hope it was venison. Bro, he straight up just threw the meat on the wood stove. No pan or anything. He leaves and returns again, this time with some bottles of bleach which he claims was beer. It sure did smell like beer, but why in a bleach bottle, bro?

At this point, Bill is more freaked out than I am and he had an idea which I wish I thought of, he made up a lie. Boy, how dumb I felt.

Bill makes up this elaborate story about how he needs to be home TONIGHT for his nonexistent child that was sick and he actually came out here to find a special herb (bullshit) to help his nonexistent kid.

This prompted concern in one of the tweakers and that began Bill's own separate journey where he rode half naked on the back of a rusty, hardly running ATV with the aforementioned tweaker back to the vehicle. But here I am, left alone with the other tweaker.

There I sat, just in my underwear. Mostly dry by now, only some small wisps of steam remain. If anything, it was my nervous sweat evaporating.

"Hey, you dont have an issue with drugs, do you?" The tweaker asks me.

"Nope." I say. I don't actually care but also I want to be as nonchalant as possible so I'm not stabbed to death.

He proceeds to move this pile of stuff in the corner of the room and like some bad scene out of GTA 5 involving Trevor, he grabs a meth pipe, a presumably loaded shotgun, and his meth. He plops down on the dirt floor next to a rudimentary table made of milk crates and roofing panels, shotgun leaning against the shack wall.

He starts taking hit, after hit, after hit. The clouds of smoke he was exhaling were enormous. The entirety of the shack filled with this meth fog, and that stuff has a very particular smell.

Meanwhile, I'm still sat on the chair. My asshole is so puckered up in fear and anticipation that had I put some sand in my asscrack, I would've made diamonds. I am diverting all of my brain power to my ears so I can hear Bill approach in the vehicle, if he ever does.

I don't actually know how much time passed. Realistically it may have been about half an hour, maybe 45 minutes

That was the longest time of my life. That tweaker just hobbled around the shack, like a golem. Scratching and picking at his open sores, probably trying to find the bugs under his skin. He was so high he was no longer speaking english, he was speaking methamphetamine.

Eventually I heard the far away groan of an engine and soon thereafter the crumple of gravel underneath car tires, approaching quickly.

"I think my friend is back," I say, "I'm gonna go check." Tweaker didnt even really look at me when I talked, it was like he was looking at the noise I was making instead.

Not even as I creep around the open wall of the shack do I see Bill careening down the pathway he left on with the ATV, eyes very wide, and beckoning at me to start running to him. Running through the woods, even if only for a few hundred meters, really makes you appreciate shoes.

Premonition is something that I experience somewhat commonly, probably a couple times a week if I thought about it. I think that's just my attuned instincts paired with available information.  
  
Precognition is a strange one though. I haven't experienced a vision/dream that stated the specificity of x,y,z happening in x,y,z order on x date.  
  
What I have experienced are what could be best described as screenshots. A specific place in space and time, often with no context; until days, weeks, months or even years go by and I realize that I'm in *that moment, right now.*  
  
The most pertinent one that I can think of, which is unfortunately probably the least interesting.. is I knew where I'd fall in love for the first time.  
  
Had a dream about walking through the autumn forest with a lady, and her walking out in front of me and turning around to frame her silhouette against the backdrop of forest.   
  
Now sure, male fantasy, I was a teenager, hormones, wild imagination and it includes two variables which are not immediately remarkable: a woman and the forest in autumn.  
  
But years and years later, it happened. I was so awestruck that in that moment I believed in God. I can not overstate the beauty of not just the woman, but the nature. The scene. All of it.  
  
I was really there, *in that moment I dreamed*. I could taste the petrichor in the air. I recognized all of the same dew drops rustling the leftover leaves as it all came clamoring down to the forest floor. I remember the wet air, I remember the lacklustre crunch of slightly crunchy, damp foliage. I recognized her smile, her skin, her smell and how in that moment, I could have been convinced the forest was grown for that exact moment in time to take place.  
  
Still to this day, one of my most vivid memories that I remembered before and after it happened.
