My biggest / only real concern is the social aspect that he is missing. It's not easy to find ways to get him interacting more often with other kids his age but we are figuring it out.

I feel you man. That's the one thing that I know is missing. One of the easiest ways to find people in your area in similar situations is searching through FB groups. You can find local parents doing the same thing and also looking for that social aspect of the kid's day. Might be a good place to start. Obviously, vet them as best as you can.
