I homeschooled our kids for 11 years (until the youngest dual enrolled at the community college as a junior in high school). It required us to sacrifice a lot, living on one income but it was doable. There are a lot of homeschool families out there and the social aspect is a fallacy. Our kids were more socially successful than students segregated into their own age groups. They could definitely tell a difference when on field trips to the museum or theater. The public school kids were savages. I considered myself a learning facilitator rather than a teacher. They had to research a lot and I pointed them in the right direction. We used a variety of curriculum, it was trial and error for a bit. We also joined HSLDA (google it) as we began our homeschooling journey in California which was quite unfriendly towards home education. They participated in many co-ops with all ages. We had a PE group, Literature group, 4-H which did LEGO robotics, community orchestra and music lessons, dance lessons, sailing group, etc.. They have friends from throughout the community of homeschoolers that they have good adult relationships with to this day. They both have good careers now and are best friends.

That's awesome. You are right about one thing, public school kids are wild. Our kids are way more well mannered than a lot of those kids. I'm glad that your efforts paid off!
