First of all, why don't you just want peace? Second, if you don't want peace because you have to make concessions, which concessions are so bad that you would rather kill millions of people? (on both sides mind you) Third, what could the Japanese give you to change your mind? Fourth, why aren't the average joe in the uniform aware of what they are fighting over? Fifth, why aren't people asking these questions? Sixth, why aren't people demanding concessions from the billionaire genocidal lunatics? seventh, as a pilot in the US army, your conditions should not be condition-less surrender for the Japanese, the Japanese are obviously not your enemy since they are informing you of the concessions they are willing to make, unlike your actual enemies who won't lett you know nor question the terms and conditions on the negotiating table. Your conditions to the actual enemy, the US government should be regime change and the ousting of the elite from power and their televised trial for warcrimes and subsequent punishment. Eighth, if these demands are too tough, you work your way to a middle-point where both the genocidal elite and the white men in uniform both agree to some concessions, so they both get something out of it.
