What I find fascinating is that American nukes probably killed even more Japanese in 1954 with the detonation of "Castle Bravo." The fallout impacted the Japanese fishing vessel *Daigo Fukuryū Maru*. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daigo_Fukury%C5%AB_Maru Obviously, it was a huge scandal, but Cold War sensibilities seem to have led to a quick downplaying and cover-up of the incident. Ultimately, the Soviet Union and the United States agreed to stop above-ground detonations because nukes are such dirty weapons! Footage of the Castle Bravo detonation: https://www.bitchute.com/embed/g5MAuP5iVzTI/ c.f. The largest above-ground detonation before the ban, Tsar Bomba: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtCTzbh4mNQ

I've been fascinated with nuclear tests ever since starting this essay, and have just recently heard of both of those tests. Tsar Bomba is absolutely insane, but the Sundial idea was next level evil.

And note that they had to downgrade Tsar Bomba at the last minute because, even with the drag parachute, the bomber couldn't escape the blast at full power!
