True story - I think it was 1986 or so and I checked the book out from the library. I remember telling everyone about it. I ended up buying a copy and sending a self addressed stamped envelope to the author to get the special addendum he offered in the author’s note at the end of the book. I also told anyone who would listen that this needs to be a movie!! It was the following year when the movie came out. “Get used to disappointment” is one of my favorite lines and I’ve used it on my kids a lot over the years ha ha
