I’m older so probably out of touch but I find fake anything off putting. I see plastic and trendy things as a form of aposematism and avoid them, experience has sharpened my pattern recognition and I believe how you do anything is how you do everything. So I usually just say I’m sorry and politely look for the exit when approached by people I don’t feel like engaging further although if there’s some reason to I will give people the benefit of the doubt but I have yet to find reason to doubt my judgment. Is expressing yourself with mass manufactured products or trends pushed by the mainstream really expressing anything other that your sense of self is defined externality? but having said all that I don’t know what guys in her demographic are into. And she might be trying to attract guys who’re into those things. I’m not on the dating market so I don’t know what it’s like out there. Imo if one doesn’t take themselves seriously no one else will be able to. Not because the person is not worthy of being taken seriously but because they aren’t sure how to for lack of solid data.
