God knows, but humans don't know. So we are tested to expose us amongst the truthful or liars (see below). #Quran chp 7 ver 172-173 Recall that your Lord summoned all the descendants of Adam, and had them bear witness for themselves: "Am I not your Lord?" They all said, "Yes. We bear witness." Thus, you cannot say on the Day of Resurrection, "We were not aware of this." Nor can you say, "It was our parents who practiced idolatry, and we simply followed in their footsteps. Will You punish us because of what others have innovated?"

It doesn't change our faith, whether we are aware or not. We will never truly know till the end, till the Judgement. Why should God care whether we think we have faith or not when we will never know for sure till the end?
