Damn, I didn't see this response until a full two weeks later, but you were there at the founding. Do you have any insight on what went wrong? SA always interested me as like the last holdout of 90's style forums. Did it succumb to reddit-tier moderation, or was there a clique that just absorbed the site?

I have some insight, but not alot. I got busy being an adult (I joined SA when I was like 22) and distanced myself from it. Defintitely the weirdos we made fun of became the actual users of the site. And yeah the mods got crazy. Zach married fistgrlll - ozma got weird. Standard "main character" syndrome from nerds who did not have a real life. They got obsessed with moderation. There was alot of weird E stalking going on. Rich did not care for years , it was making a few hundred thousand per year and he just lived life while others ran it for basically E clout and no wages. When it stopped making money, it was too late to save it. Then he had some terrible health issues and had to sell the place to people who hated him and the forums. Quite the tragedy. I had not spoken to him in about 6 years before he killed himself. Too much drama that was self inflicted IMO. Almost all of it revolving around drinking, bad choices in women and apathy. He was a good guy from all of my interactions (mostly online a few in person over the years)
