Biblically, it's meant to warn of the false prophets and teachings to lure people away from God. The devil is the biggest liar. There are preachers, pastors, priests and popes that think they can change the word of God because of the current culture or because of their feelings on a matter, they are false and are leading people away from the truth of God's Word. Bottom line is you can't change Gods word! This Easter will be 4 years I've been a Christian. Was raised Catholic but never felt connected there. Was invited to a Christian church and there's just a pull to be there every week. :) I love reading and studying the Bible now. I use scripture every day, in so many ways, and I let God talk to me through the Bible. Bottom line, hold that scripture in your heart and let the Holy Spirit guide you to the truth about someone or something. Be patient, and trust in God and ask for his guidance. he'll never let you down.

My favorite is Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Him who strengthens me

Thanks for the insight. Words are however just that, words. They can hold many meanings depending on the reader. Even today there are many biblical scholars who try to interpret the messages within the bible. I do however understand and believe this verse was meant to warn people of exactly what you stated.
