I did a couple of basic searches about that and decided I couldn't get any accurate unbiased information that way. It was so skewed in a thinly veiled way. Then I thought about it s little. It is very plausible because the mining industry has been gutted and handicapped so much by the regulatory process that it's almost nonexistent. There was a lot of media about the [government backstopping the industry](https://www.cnbc.com/2025/09/28/mp-materials-lithium-americas-lac-rare-earth-trump-stake.html) by taking a stake in a company and guaranteeing pricing. But then then within the industry they point out that the [government has poured cold water on the idea](https://www.mining.com/us-government-pours-cold-water-on-critical-metals-deal/). I'm not sure what to believe about this.

Those corporations are multi-national corporations, they will keep up with the technology of the time.

I am not saying that they can't. I'm just saying that they have not at least not here and pointing out why they have not. The problem seems to be pretty deep and a politically structural problem. I have heard it said that the free market system has failed in this area because China sacrifices its environment for economic purposes. I would extend that thought to include military purposes. As I think about this I don't think that the free market system has failed globally. A free market is a free market the fewer the rules the more free the market is. What is done here in regards to REs and most industry has been crippling due to greed, corruption and special interests. Kind of a tangent but food for thought.

Well if mining is in China, why would Russia have better tech than America? China is a paper dragon, America/Americans used them while they were useful.
