''If you were to end up with a large group of followers, they will be retards. What will you do then?''

No, I will not let retards join; you will since you care so much about people who are worthless and useless.

''You'll define them as loyal subjects and your own band of warriors, or something like that.''

I will let only those who are worthy and ideally useful as well, to join.    Most likely men who are smart, strong, independent, and not an asshole, the real men, hardcore.

''Is a man with a bunch of retard followers really a warlord.''

I won't let retards join, but you will since you don't live in a real world, but in a matrix of your fantasy.

''And they will be actively plotting against you and hoping to take your place''

They won't have to!   If they are not happy with my leadership, they will be free to form their own subgroup, and even if they don't, I will encourage most worthy of them to start their own subgroup, and will help them, so that eventually the cream of the crop among them can/will succeed me, at least partially, and that's the idea of the imperial federation or Neoconfederacy based on true, organic fascism.

''Dogs will spend that time loving you truly and being ready to die for you if needed.''

That's a stereotype based on bullshit Disney propaganda.

''In a ideal future situation after the collapse, one will have a small group of equals with the ability to stay out of sight and stay quiet, ....''

Not necessarily, depending on local tactical situation, one might make an aggressive move to annex, or form an alliance with as many local polities as much, as fast as possible.

''...and loyal dogs to help protect their self-sufficient home base.''

No, there will not be enough resources to feed and train a large group of big dogs.

''They will have little need to venture out, and will have the ability to be friendly with and trade with other similar groups. Everyone can be happy, and without the need to harm others or dominate retards.''

That will depend on local, tactical situations.   If local polities are friendly, you could have a point, but what if they are not?
