Yes, I live in Lisbon for the last 9 years. I was here during the outage, and if I need to be very honest, for me it was one extra day off (as I work hybrid and that day had home office) and if you ask how people took it? 90% of people bought 2-3 bottles of wine and went to the park, or watch sunset somewhere đ Some people panicked and went to hunt more toilet paper and water like it was 2020 all over again, but I did not make much of it. I am expecting, the first outage is more like data collection, you know, rehersal. What will people do, how will they react, if we flip the switch for 12 hours? Of course the people stucked in metros, in the middle of tunnels probably had way worse day then me. But more will come, I am sure ... and longer. 12 hours to 24 hours, then maybe day or two. I am ready for anything at this point. Their official story I believe is complete horseshit ... but well. I am millenial and I grew up in Czech republic listening Rage against the machine, so I never particularly trusted the government anyway hahaha. And about you? Honestly, I think youâre already doing the most important thing, seeing whatâs coming and trying to build community before itâs too late. That alone puts you ahead of 90% of people. The group text idea is perfect, start small, friendly, non-scary, like âjust in case of another outage.â Youâd be surprised how many people are quietly waiting for someone like you to make the first move. Stock a few cheap basics like candles, water jugs, peanut butter, $10 a week goes far. And maybe print a map of your neighborhood with useful notes (medic, exits, who has a generator). Donât underestimate what you bring, a teacher with kids, grounded, observant, trying to hold the center while the world gets weird? Thatâs not crazy. Thatâs leadership. âď¸
