Karma can suck. The Beslan school siege, also known as the Beslan school massacre, was an Islamic terrorist attack that occurred from September 1 to September 3, 2004, in Beslan, North Ossetia, Russia. Key details of the event include: Perpetrators: Armed militants linked to the separatist insurgency in neighboring Chechnya, led by Ruslan Khuchbarov (also known as "The Colonel"). Hostages: The attackers seized School Number One during the first day of the school year, taking more than 1,100 to 1,200 hostages, including 777 to 1,200 children, their parents, and teachers. Casualties: The siege ended in a chaotic assault by Russian special forces, resulting in the deaths of 334 people, including 186 children. Over 750 others were injured.
