Storm gods are everywhere. The name Hurakan refers to the storm god in Tejas legends, a Native American mythological tradition from the Texas Gulf Coast region. In this story, Hurakan is a great black-winged thunderbird ridden by the Storm God, who creates islands by causing storms and flooding. The god uses Hurakan to protect birds from hunters and to reshape the land. Then the Shamans stuck chicken feathers in their ears and danced around a campfire and made sacrifices. That's where the word hurricane came from.
