I noticed after Bush v Gore, but that just drove me away from politics. I didn't understand why exactly, I just knew the system was broken and pointless.

Then you should have dug further to understand why it's broken exactly. From salaries being voted for positions that are intended to be voluntary and burdensome. All the way to the unconstitutional gov agents that police society inorder to enslave the population. Keep going until you realize why you are only free to do as you are told. Just as slaves in the 1820s were free to do

So the government decides to cancel the social contract (without mention), and it’s my fault? Blame the victim instead of the perp. Sounds familiar.
