Yeah, it's a cycle... but extracting yourself and not participating is your best chance, and societies best chance of success and change, will it last, well that depends, doesn't it... Learning from the mistakes of the past and implantation of new ( rather old ways ) ways is our best hope, it's actually what has ultimately brought us back from the brink time and time again..

It really is a cycle throughout history - usually the same villains too. They only difference is they learn and we don't apparently. The bright spot is the bad times are always followed by the good. I am so happy I spent my youth during one of the good swings, culturally. I have lived through three pretty severe economic times (90s recession, dot.com bubble, 2008 crisis), but culturally the 80s and 90s were phenomenal in my opinion. I feel like a King Theodan moment is in the making and wormtongue is on the way out.
