Of course we could say that this is corrupt because..numerous reasons. It's just not possible to have some sort of fair equitable system of trade gold or no gold. If the ancients described something like that it doesn't matter because it was old, they didn't have tech and those who wrote about it were probably corrupt. Whatever gold reserve system there was up to 71' didn't matter.  This is the way it was until a short time ago historically.
