It would be good to have progress in the pursuits of greater virtues, even if it lead to an end of some kind, considering the future is uncertain anyhow.

"Greater virtues" That just sounds like "pet projects". I'm sure lots of people have ideas about what greater virtues they want to force upon all humans. Is religion a greater virtue?
