I'm not in a position to demand anything. This account and any data associated with it are totally at the mercy of the owners. I'm asking the owners to do the ethical action by me and terminate the account and delete the data associated with it. This was part of the terms when I joined the platform. You're an expert in this field - you think about digital privacy a lot (is that fair?). In some ways you're an activist for these causes, I read your content, I've learned a lot from you - while I think you were disingenuous in the way you responded to my concerns on the other thread understand that was probably because you felt like I was attacking you or the platform and you want to defend it because you believe in it (and the way I communicate my concerns probably contributed to that). I understand that, but can you tell me how you feel about my request, from your more experienced perspective - is my request to allow users to have their account terminated and associated data deleted unreasonable?

You're free to ask Hacker News the same question. They don't delete accounts because it hinders discussion, they can rename the accounts to obfuscate the identity of the owners, deletion of the account would make archives, links, and current threads not have a full discussion. Which makes sense, however; do I feel accounts should be able to mark their name as 'Anonymous' in some capacity such as when they're not logged in for >=30days, or able to set it themselves and then log out with the ideology that when they log back in their name goes back to what it was. I feel accounts shouldn't require e-mails but can accept one in case somebody wants account recovery in the future. If it were up to me and people had the knowledge of how it works I'd use keys. But, it's not about what I want.
