Agreed. Part of that is also the population explosion of the last 100 years. There are 8x more people now than our grandparents generation. The worst part is really the wealth gap, the middle class is shrinking and we are reverting to a caste system of peasents and kings.

On top of that, nobody really knows how to make things anymore in the United States. When was the last time you actually made anything physical that had a functional use? Even basic woodworking is outside the skill set of the average person. Back in the 40s, 50s, 60s, the garage was where things got built, repaired, and tinkered with. I’d say the subset of the population that is actually making or self-repairing things today is tiny. cheap overseas labor essentially ruined the American manufacturing base

Ive gone back to changing my own oil on the car just to feel like a man once a year. this dependent mindset has creeped into every aspect of society in america today. My grandpa was an electrician. He built his home by himself with a hammer and a handsaw. My mom was a nurse, but being the daughter of an electrician she rewired outlets, ran power lines out to our garage. Hung and hardwired in light fixtures in our home. The knowledge and skills were passed down. Now theres me and i couldnt build a shed let alone a whole home. Sure i have other skills but im jealous of my ancestors abilities to create. I also think a lot of this comes back to my mcdonalds coffee end of civilzation theory. The government is so full of regulations, everyone is bubble wrapped and "protected" from hurting themselves. Even if i wanted to buuld a house on my property there is now an endless line of beaurecrats and regulations to prevent me from building anything. Even if i just wanted to learn wood working and make custom wooden spoons. Im sure theres some license or regulation to prevent me from selling my custom wooden spoons to my neighbors. I'd need the approval of some government employee to do anything. Some lady spilled coffee on herself and sued mcdonalds. And now no one can do anything without asking permission from the government or risk being sued or thrown in jail.
