I didn't mean to be disrespectful either, and I realize you are not making an argument that one is worse than the other - I am. I don't believe people that smoke weed have an inability to modify their opinions based on new information any more than the general population, though the general population may have that problem at a more pronounced rate than normal historically. Isn't that just cognitive dissonance though? I'm not an expert, so I don't know. and I also have bias in the opinion because I smoke. I have never considered myself very smart - with or without weed, but weed doesn't seem to amplify cognitive dissonance for me. It let's me see things from many perspectives instead just focused on one.

Again. Thank you for your respectful response: Alcoholics don't get in wrecks because demons come in and yank the wheel. It's because they don't recognize the damage the alcohol does. It's not really perceptible from inside. You absolutely SHOULD consider yourself smart... and do your level best to live up to the label! This opinion of mine is new to me, formulated since I came to soj.ooo and saw so many users who displayed exactly the same pattern of behavior who also openly used pot. Since then I had a lengthy back and forth with Claude AI investigating whether or not my observation had any scientific backing from researchers and getting a list of studies to explore to perhaps derive a more informed opinion. My purpose here, as often as is possible is to present ideas worth considering, which are as often as possible in contrast to the ideas that I see most widely accepted. If I echo what others believe or are inclinded to believe I consider my efforts to mostly be a waste of time. I'm going to be dead in less time than what I currently consider a short period of time from my past. I'd rather spend one minute petting a kitten at this point than an hour convincing someone of something that 5 years later I'd regret promoting.

I shouldn't be so closed minded. Maybe you are on to something that as an "insider" I can't see. Calling your idea "ridiculous" was wrong. It would be interesting if your hypothesis holds from platform to platform as well. A lot of times people here seem to be trolling more than anything. Certain ideas will never be accepted by some, no matter how logical the argument simply because they don't want it to be true. Maybe I was doing the same at some level...not trolling but not wanting your hypothesis to be true. Anyway, thanks for the civil discourse.

You're entirely welcome and thank you as well. Bear in mind my hypothesis is exactly that: It's an explanation for a phenomenon I'm seeing. It's almost certainly NOT the only explanation. To a certain extent I can chalk it up to online bloodsports mentality where ceding even the most minor point is taken as total loss. But, I am seriously exploring it as a potential characteristic pathology relatively common with cannabis users.
