I agree with most of what you’re saying except for the $$$. I think even in today’s messed up world, one should be able to live comfortably off of a half mil—especially with the benefits they get and the ones you’re proposing. Yes, they sacrifice their lives to serve and that’s the point—it’s a \*sacrifice.\* Any public servant should see themselves as such. Besides, it’s really not that hard of a job. They should be traveling around and meeting with constituents all the time. They should be reading proposed legislation and or writing it. They should be sitting and talking in negotiations with other public servants when in DC. They have assistants and their assistants have assistants. Seriously, what about their actual job warrants a million dollar salary? Bring back integrity. Seems like the only reason anyone wants to throw more taxpayer money at these greedy mofos is bc we want to de-incentivize bribery and criminal behavior. There’s no amount of money that’s gonna make a bad person not act like a bad person. Morality used to matter or at least it looked like it but then Clinton had to ruin a dress.

Long Term I agree with your sentiment. But in the short term I don't see a better alternative to curbing corruption towards a better future.
