I support this idea. I've often thought the same. The problem with **our political system**, and to a significant degree our society at large, is that it **is a project for personal enrichment**. Atleast this is what it has been reduced to in the 21st century. Most who compete for high office are chiefly interested in, or are at least tempted by, the riches that can be amassed via corruption. And really, it is perhaps not worth the effort to be a sincere Congressman in Washington DC. The great Thomas Massie even said that he is considering leaving the Congress, perhaps for a crack at Governor of Kentucky, or perhaps even a meager State Senator slot, while also being mindful of the upcoming US Senate vacancy that will be left behind by McConnell. Appropriate pay and benefits might encourage honest, talented people to make a go of it, rather than just the corrupt talented, the plain corrupt, and the useful idiots. And the cost is relatively small. A great deal more money, many orders of magnitude more, are lost in the quid pro quo schemes of our corrupt leaders and their corporate masters, never mind what is lost to the widespread bad governance we suffer under. Our Federal leaders ought to be generously compensated, but also held to a strict and high standard. No tolerance for corruption or anything that appears corrupt. Democratic leaders ought to work for the people, in the open, rather than for the highest bidder, in the dark.

You've summarized it perfectly. While the idea that Good people should want to serve their country and be public servants. Might have worked fine in 1805 when people were having 7 children, and your sons could maintain the family farm, while you went to Washington to serve. I'm not sure what other incentive outside of fighting bad money with good money could be to incentivize good people to set foot into the political realm. Clearly there are also a multitude of other issues inside the government as well. And this isn't meant as an all encompassing solution to everything. Just putting out some options into the void of the internet. And maybe the next generation can get the ball rolling on changes some day. And then theres the obvious of, how do we ever get positive change into government. My answer would be to wake enough people up that they demand change. After seeing ideas that make sense to everyone, maybe everyone will finally stop following the propaganda.
