Idk what Matt said but I looked into it anyway… The main sources seem to be: 1\. The “Prophecy of the Popes” This is probably the biggest source of the current 2027 panic. It’s a medieval text attributed to an Irish bishop named Saint Malachy. Some modern interpretations claim it predicts the final pope and the end of the world in 2027. Interest in it surged again when Pope Francis became ill in 2025. 2\. UFO / “Disclosure” communities Around 2023–2026, online UFO circles began spreading rumors that “something major” would happen in 2027 involving aliens, catastrophic disclosure, solar events, or societal collapse. A lot of this spread through TikTok, Reddit, podcasts, and YouTube, usually with vague “insider” claims but no evidence. 3\. Biblical numerology Some people use symbolic math from the Bible — especially the “6,000 years of human history followed by a 1,000-year rest” idea — to argue that 2027 marks the end of an era. These calculations vary wildly depending on which chronology someone uses. 4\. AI apocalypse fears There are also newer fears tied to rapid AI development. Some speculative essays and viral posts imagined civilization-changing AI events around 2027–2028, and social media blended those ideas with religious and UFO narratives.
