Agreed! Cultural assimilation should have always been the priority policy. Racial hegemony can't maintain functionality without cultural hegemony. But cultural hegemony will unify society regardless of racial hegemony. Unfortunately, it is never in most governments' interests to preserve a cultural hegemony that is against government expansionism and power grabs. In all likelihood, the US government has intentionally and deliberately planned over the years to trade the traditional "American culture" standard for an "all cultures are equal" amalgamation. Compared to native-born citizens' strongly cynical beliefs, immigrants (coming from less advantaged nations) will offer increased dependency on government programs, have a greater tolerance of related government overreach, be appreciative and vote accordingly in support, and of course avoid developing meaningful cohesion amongst the citizenry and thus negate threats to revolt and ruling power. It's a winner winner, chicken dinner for only the government at the expense of the governed. Per usual.
