I think they do know; but they’ll never say it. Religion, these days, is more of a social construct. It’s a way to network, a way to wheel and deal; it’s not about God and his laws but about looking the part, pretending to be one thing because of the financial, political, and social benefits. Church is often just a country club.

It's a little more than that; when people know they are just pretending, and at least not worthless, and rational, they tend to limit their hypocrisy within reason. Problems is too many of these 'Christians' are either worthless or not worthy enough, and irrational as well to the point of delusional. Add to that, the legacy of Dr.Spock, the entitlement syndrome, people using Gospel to make themselves feel good, or 'positive', you have irrational mob that is hell bent on imposing their non-Christian values they don't even practice, on the rest. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Spock
