You’re welcome, I was actually lying. I’ve never been a news person, no tv as a child never picked up the habit. I don’t have cable curate my media consumption and narratives aren’t something I digest well. Left a cult in my teens so not trying to join new ones. I believe politics are godless religions and all news is propaganda.

My aunt puts the news on while she does her morning aerobics in the living room. That's where I caught the similarities in the tone. I never picked up the habit either. I wasn't into watching the Idiot Box as a kid. I'll never forget when my parents got suckered by a door to door salesman into buying the encyclopedia Britannica. I know they didn't have the money, but they did it. It was a dream come true for me! I moved out on my own at 17 with no internet and an old clunker of a PC from Montgomery Wards & kept that beast kickin' for years. I prefer challenges over entertainment. I can't stay awake long enough to get through the movie previews let alone the "news"! It's impossible to not notice anymore that those who obtain their world views through traditional media outlets are living in a totally different reality. I can get behind the idea that politics are a godless religion... a godless religion in a tribal world. I would imagine it was an especially difficult journey coming to the realization that everything you believed in was not as it seemed. The strength to leave a situation like that is admirable.

I agree, it’s better to seek growth than comfort. Amusement my childhood gave me compassion for those who don’t know they’re in a cult. and everyone seems to be in ones these days so I need it.
