My parents weren't great either. Not so much abusive as... dumb and shallow? They meant well and weren't awful but they talked less than I did, and I considered myself a mute for many years. I only bring them up to say that I didn't spend much time at home, at all. If I wasn't at school, I was in the wilderness. Or I was skipping school to be in the wilderness.
