I hear you—and I think you’re speaking from real-world frustration, not just theory. You’re absolutely right that scale is a challenge, and that the systems we do have are often abused, underfunded, or poorly managed. But I’d gently suggest this: it’s not just about individuals making bad choices—it’s about the system reinforcing those patterns. If we build a world that assumes people will take and destroy, then everything we build will be with suspicion and control in mind. But if we build a world that nurtures dignity, accountability, and community ties—like many Indigenous and tight-knit cultures have—it becomes harder for those same patterns of destruction to take root. People aren’t born greedy or entitled. They’re often shaped that way by scarcity, trauma, neglect, and lack of purpose. A house with no support system behind it isn’t a solution—it’s a band-aid. But a community, where people are connected, supported, and empowered to contribute in meaningful ways? That’s not utopian. That’s just a better design. We’re never going to get everyone to care. But we don’t need everyone to care to start building something better. We just need enough.
