Once upon a time... A man arose who could command the allegiance of many thousands, who he led to perform great and terrible acts. From this man. This ONE singular man, came the Western concept of "fairness". Who brought "freedom" in a world of slavery. A man who dictated from a position of power that you were OWED that which you earned, who paid respect to the semblance of nobility, who preserved the traditions of those he conquered. This man was what we in the Western tradition refer to as "messiah". The deliverer. The conqueror. Mighty justice. Son of God who rose from the dead after three days. And he was expected to rise again. This man was Alexander The Great. My radically insincere apologies to whatever religious adherent who imagines their "morality" comes from their religious tradition. Sorry. You're wrong. It comes from Alexander. The Greek civilization comes from Alexander. Judaism evolved from a tribal paganism worshiping a surfeit of gods to the religion of a nation, largely borrowing from the legend of Alexander. The Christ/Moshiach/Anointed is an imitation of the legend of Alexander. If we wish to hearken to the one true antecedent, the founder of our civilization and culture, that antecedent is Alexander. He's no "Jay-suss", he's no "Mo-homo-udd". He has flaws, he's not perfect, he's not all knowing or all caring. He didn't live a life of sublime subtlety. He just founded an empire more relevant, of more immediate concern than the rein of most American presidents. Right now, at this exact moment, more people are concerned with what Alexander did, what he might have thought, than are interested in the thoughts of Joe Biden. That means he's less dead after more than two thousand years than Joe Biden is today. And again, profoundly insincere apologies. Nobody cares what your fictional Jesus would do. We openly scoff at the idea we might care about the musings of the largely fictional Mohammad. But, if something from the life of Alexander might be pertinent today, we want to know.
