'Ballistic' in the term 'ballistic missile' means a particular kind of trajectory. There's a difference between the trajectory of a 'mortar' who reaches into space, and an aircraft which does not. Trajectory and speed aren't the same. Munitions have a trajectory, all of them. They vary in speed.

What does ballistic mean? : extremely and usually suddenly excited, upset, or angry : wild. He went ballistic when he saw the dent in his car. and the crowd goes ballistic. 2. : of or relating to the science of the motion of projectiles in flight.Mar 1, 2025 Ballistic is an adjective describing the munition. That has nothing to do with really anything, you can call all munitions ballistic.
