Honestly I think the USA was too good too fast. Abundance in Abundance for generations brought in the age of complacency(~1850s - ~1913), and then the age of complacency led to the age of giving up paying attention, and begun trusting in the government (1913- ~1990) And of course now we are in idiocracy where people are willingly injecting themselves with experimental pharmaceuticals for a McDonald's gift certificates. ^I would mention there was a brief second American renaissance period from ~1990-2005 Where once again it was good to be proud to be an American and basic values were honored. Ross Perot, Ron Paul etc, the country had 1776 spirit^ The USA was built on turbo steroids the likes the modern world or ancient has never been seen. Endless arable land, rich forests and navigable rivers. Resources everywhere and easy to access. The expansion West aligned perfectly with the Industrial era and gave a 2nd super boost of TRT directly into the veins of America. in 1849 Millions were lured west with the promise of GOLD and RICHES. What really happened? The USA Secured the Continent east and west, built the railroads, connected the Oceans and secured the greatest piece of **Land on the Earth.** Now I think as they play the game of pendulum swings, Left and Right, there are moments and generations that fall within the Center of the Pendulum. Where the Tricks and Games the powerful play can fell their deep laid plans, and be their own undoing.

This is a really good take on things... and if you look at the pattern of empire fits along with it pretty precisely, as you note though technical progression in that time has accelerated the growth in the US, and elsewhere obviously, making things progress at a faster pace.
