Dogs are not sentient beings unlike cats; they are not people. Some dogs considered 'nice' are born nice, meaning, a particular 'nice' dog is born with instincts people in general consider 'nice'. That 'nice' dog is not capable of behaving 'nasty'; it's simply not in that dog's gene. Dog does not decide to be 'nice' any more than 'nasty'. They are not sentient, but creatures driven by instincts particular dogs happen to be born with. 'Nasty' dogs are born, not the products of environment; that is the big lie paddled by doggy crazies. I have reached the conclusion after much time/energy spent on research. 'Nasty' dogs cannot be retrained to be 'nice'.
