Florida and Texas sent it back also. Want some Mexican salad? Mexico has significantly restricted the use of hazardous pesticides in food production, though the country still authorizes some agrochemicals banned in other nations. In September 2025, President Claudia Sheinbaum signed a historic decree banning the production, import, and use of 35 highly hazardous pesticides, including DDT, aldicarb, carbofuran, and endosulfan. This marked the first major pesticide prohibition in Mexico in 34 years and aligned the country with international conventions like the Stockholm and Rotterdam treaties. However, Mexico continues to permit the use of over 140 active ingredients classified as highly hazardous by international organizations, such as glyphosate, atrazine, and paraquat, which are banned in the European Union or other countries. While the government aims to phase out these substances gradually, with further bans planned for 2026 and 2027, critics argue that enforcement remains inconsistent and that thousands of toxic pesticides are still authorized for agricultural, domestic, and industrial use.
