On the surface I would think that Afghanistan would be a bad barometer to measure freedom, especially when it comes to women. But a lot of the news you hear about Afghanistan comes from mainstream media which itself could be just lies. I did hear from cousin who was out in Afghanistan was that men from the Northern Alliance liked a blonde hair, blue eyed American and that women were for breeding and men were for pleasure. We are told that the people over there are hard core homophobes, this story and others makes you think otherwise.

Afghanistan is definitely worse for women and LGBT+. However, if you want to openly speak against billionaires, you can and not be afraid of ice. If you want to buy land and build a home, farm the land, it's easier in Afghanistan. If you want to open a business, or factory, it's easier in Afghanistan compared to the USA. Men, not women, have more political freedoms and business rights than men in the US.

You've highlighted a great point... Freedom for who? And who gets to exercise theirs.
