You’re talking about psilocin, not different kinds of psilocybin. Psilocybin and psilocin are different chemicals. Psilocybin is converted in the body into psilocin, which is the primary psychoactive compound. But psilocybin itself is the same molecule whether it comes from Penis Envy, Golden Teacher, or another psilocybin-producing mushroom. What varies is how much psilocybin, psilocin, and other related alkaloids the mushroom contains. Also, “Blue Meanie” can mean two different things. There is a Psilocybe cubensis cultivar sold as Blue Meanie, but “Blue Meanies” is also a common name for Panaeolus cyanescens, which is a different genus and species. And even within the same P. cubensis cultivar, potency can vary from one grow or batch to another, and even among individual mushrooms from the same batch. Genetics matter, but so do growing conditions, maturity, drying, storage and other factors. So “Penis Envy” or “Golden Teacher” is not a precise potency measurement. The short version is: psilocybin is psilocybin. The molecule is the same. What changes is how much of it, and how much psilocin and other alkaloids, are actually present in a particular mushroom or batch.
