I don't think it has anything to do with that at all. As I said people conform to the norm. Women used to wear dresses that covered their ankles. Now they wear yoga pants that dig into their ass hole to show off their butt. Trends come and go as norms, they are a reflection of the societal norms. Men used to wear suits that had should pads in them to accentuate their physical appearance. Just as women wore padded bras. The current trend is cheap polyester pajama style clothing for daily ware. The real question is where and who sets the trends. Your average person isn't going to have any insight into this.

Exactly, which returns to the main question, men on average don't take their appearance seriously whereas far more women continue to do so, I am asking why when the rejection of social norms came from the female side.

feminism and dating apps gave them more access to more men. Even men from other countries. So their endless quest to obtain the perfect man has now gone international, where as 200 years ago men only had to compete with the 15 other breeding age men in their small town. Women think the grass is always greener and they have more options to be impregnated by men with higher wealth. They can then exploit that pregnancy for financial gain. Women do not want a traditional family. They want convenience and conformity. Women see their value sexually, men see their value financially. This is how the world has always worked. I am not saying this is how I think it should be I am just pointing out reality.
