I don’t see a natural human hunger/desire for violence. Military history and sociology finds most people have a deep resistance to killing another human at close range. Armies spend a lot of time drilling that resistance out. What does exist is violence as a tool, a way to settle status, debt, insult etc. Violence becomes rational instrument inside a broken neighborhood. "Young men" in cities are not killing because they want to kill. They are acting out an environmental and cultural upbringing and learned desensitization. If serving time raises your street credibility and status, you are living in a failed, broken society.

Ahh...across human history, people have invaded each other. Hopefully "bounty" or over abundance will remove this basic instinct from humanity. Lots of armies don't have to rile the troops up if they are fighting for a cause or even to loot. There are only blips in human history when there wasn't war. And usually that was nations just building up armies so they could go to war. I would argue that young men want to conquer. The Zulu leader uses his troops to see how much firepower the British have.  From the most technological human societies to tribal peoples, young men war/men war.

Just because war is common does not mean it is the native desire of a young man. When you are young you lack experience and judgment, but you are eager to establish yourself and stand out. Young men recognize each other faster than they recognize risk, and they are easier to lead when no family yet depends on them.

Yes, lead some cause or lead something to somewhere for some purpose. Not all of them invent things. Some young men are violent and employee others that are violent. Then people need to defend themselves from those people. I don't see a higher authority stepping in...
