This is a great post! I wish I had seen it when you originally published it! Here’s my two cents: “And for what, to protect what?” —Protect the status quo. We’re all messed up and sometimes it’s scary to change. We hate the unknown. We need guarantees but life doesn’t give them so it’s easier to stay where we are. “Ideas held and scars left by old wounds?” —Sometimes we come to identify with the ideas and scars. Sometimes we value them more than healing. “Does pain hold more beauty and meaning than hope?” —To me, no, suffering is only a means to an end. While I can’t stand Jeff Bezos, I just saw an interview with him where he stated that anxiety isn’t about fear but complacency. He said that stress is caused by NOT doing what we already know we need to do. A lot of times, we cause our own pain. “Can we not hope to find better than what we no longer hold?” —I am a sad person. I choose to try to be happy but most of the time, I’m deeply melancholic because I live on hope. Hope deferred makes the heart sick. I haven’t had an easy life and yet I choose to hold on to hope that it will get better. What I’m having to come to terms with is that peace is defined, I think, by acceptance of what is and not what could be. Maybe my life will always be hard. That makes me sad and yet maybe that’s my cross to bear. Why does everyone think that life is supposed to be easy? “How do we step out of yesterday’s shadows to walk in today’s light?” —Faith in Jesus. “How do we release the past to embrace the present and image the future?” —Forgiveness. “How do we become as children to see the kingdom of heaven?” —Being an adult means having responsibilities. I think, then, that becoming like a child is to relinquish control and give it to God. Let Him work. Cast your anxieties on Him. Being a child, in Christ, is the hardest thing an adult can do. I’m terrible at it.

Nature encompasses all degrees. I've met those that love commitment, even to their toxic circumstances, and I know free souls that couldn't be tied down to one place or phase even if it was paradise.
