*"Are you sure about that...seems highly speculative?"* The core theme through both Testaments portrays God as viewing humanity, especially His covenant people and believers as children and relating to them in a fatherly way. Old Testament: Exodus 4:22 — God declares: "Israel is my son, my firstborn." Hosea 11:1 — "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son." Jeremiah 3:19 — "How I would set you among my sons... You shall call Me, My Father." Isaiah 63:8 — "Surely they are my people, children who will not deal falsely" New Testament: God directly affirms Jesus as "my beloved Son" - Matthew 3:17; 17:5 "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" (1 John 3:1) "Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, 'Abba, Father'" - Galatians 4:6; "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God" - Romans 8:15–16 "I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty" - 2 Corinthians 6:18 Apostles: 1 Corinthians 3:1–3 NIV: Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere humans? Hebrews 5:12–14 NIV: In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. 1 Thessalonians 2:11 — "For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you..." 1 Timothy 1:2 — "To Timothy, my true child in the faith..." Titus 1:4 — "To Titus, my true child in a common faith..." Philemon 1:10 — "...for my child, Onesimus, whose father I became in my imprisonment."
