It's a catch 22 for sure and it's needed to be challenged because criticism of israel is not the same as hatred of a group of people, Just like criticism of the US government is protected speech and if you want to say the US was originally founded as a Christian nation with Christian values baked into the constitution yet religious freedom and expression of religions other than Christianity are welcome and allowed. It sets a bad precedent to say you can't judge a country or an apartied state on grounds of its religious affiliation, because then does that mean criticism towards Islamic countries is also protected because of thier religious beliefs being politically tied to their governments descisions and sharia laws, and a majority of their citizens being Muslim, so criticism of Islamic countries could also be redefined under new definitions to define Islamophobia. Are we going to have these standards and rules only for the jewish people and the jewish state of Israel? Because it seems like a slippery slope for sure and other religions can attempt to redefine discrimination towards their religious group to include their governments under islamic rule. Either way its a foreign nation, as americans we should be alloeed to criticize a foriegn enity if were gonna allow people to criticize our country without removing their green card status or ability to obtain such a status
