One of the stranger parts of the Osama bin Laden raid has almost nothing to do with al-Qaeda.

When U.S. forces raided the Abbottabad compound in 2011, they seized a huge collection of computers, drives, documents and other material. The CIA eventually released nearly **470,000 files**, while ODNI published a curated index known as **Bin Laden's Bookshelf**.

And some of the material is bizarre.

**The Illuminati card game and 9/11**

Yes, the collection actually contains material about Steve Jackson Games' **Illuminati: New World Order** card game.

ODNI specifically lists **"Website Claims Steve Jackson Games Foretold 9/11."** The recovered file was a saved webpage discussing claims that cards from the game predicted the September 11 attacks.

The CIA archive also contains a document titled **"Smoking Gun Proof That Illuminati Plan to Attack on 9/11 and Beyond Was Well Known as Far Back as 1995."** It discusses the Illuminati cards in connection with 9/11 conspiracy claims.

**Bloodlines of the Illuminati**

Also recovered was Fritz Springmeier's **Bloodlines of the Illuminati**, a book alleging that powerful family bloodlines secretly control world affairs. ODNI lists it among the English-language books recovered from Abbottabad.

**Committee of 300**

The collection also contained John Coleman's **Conspirators' Hierarchy: The Committee of 300**, another book centered on claims of a secret international ruling group.

**9/11 conspiracy literature**

There was considerably more than the card-game material.

The bookshelf included David Ray Griffin's **The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions About the Bush Administration and 9/11** and Michael Ruppert's **Crossing the Rubicon**.

**Occult material**

Another striking title is Manly P. Hall's **The Secret Teachings of All Ages**, the massive 1928 work dealing with esoteric traditions, secret societies, symbolism, alchemy and mysticism.

**Federal Reserve conspiracy literature**

The collection included Eustace Mullins' **Secrets of the Federal Reserve**, another longstanding work in conspiracy literature.

**More of the same**

Other recovered titles included **The Taking of America 1-2-3** by Richard Sprague, **Black Box Voting: Ballot Tampering in the 21st Century** by Bev Harris, **The Best Enemy Money Can Buy** by Antony Sutton, **Confessions of an Economic Hit Man** by John Perkins, **Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II** by William Blum, and the actual congressional record of the **1977 Senate hearing on MKULTRA**.

These works are very different from one another, and finding something in the compound does not prove bin Laden personally read it or believed it.

**And then there were the video games**

The files included a **Delta Force: Xtreme 2 Videogame Guide** and a **GameSpot Videogame Guide**.

ODNI placed these in a separate category called **"Documents Probably Used by Other Compound Residents."** That distinction matters because material recovered from the compound cannot automatically be attributed personally to bin Laden.
