versus: Jesus also tells us: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you…” — Matthew 5:44 Love here is not sentimental. Part of loving an enemy is doing the hard intellectual work of trying to understand how he sees the world—even if we end up completely opposing what he does. It’s far easier to demonise than to understand. But Christians are not called to the easy path. For we must hope that everyone seeks to repent and desire for redemption, even though we do not know who Satan will specifically entice and devour, however, he has no power over a holy people. Leviticus 19:18 “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. Psalm 34:9 Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. Matthew 5:46-47 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 1 Peter 5:8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
