All historical study involves human perspective, of course — but that doesn’t make it “nothing more than opinion.” Written testimony is the evidence we use for antiquity — from Caesar’s campaigns to Alexander’s conquests. Critical analysis of sources (bias, genre, corroboration) is the discipline of history. To dismiss all written records as mere “opinion” would empty the entire field of history of meaning.
