I agree, finding a church isn't like shopping for a car and trying to find the perfect one for your needs, it's where God places you. A simple way to choose would be to select one of the closest biblically sound churches near you. 1 John 17:20-21 - I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

It's also a place to be of service. I'm not 100% happy where we go now, but I love that my kids are learning about serving. They all serve in some form a few times a month. I believe modern Christianity has become self-absorbed....it's always about what God can do for us....oh woe is me! And rarely about what we should be doing for God. Dying to self is much harder in these.....instant pleasure/depressed mind frame.....modern times we live in. Everyone is hyperfocused on self and damn the rest of the people around me. We've lost that sense of heartbreak and empathy for other people's plights and struggles. We are all to blame.....I am no better.

I love your responses here. This especially "I believe modern Christianity has become self-absorbed....it's always about what God can do for us....oh woe is me! And rarely about what we should be doing for God." If only we could remind ourselves more often that it isn't about us - is about what pleases God and making sure we are doing his will, according to the purpose He created us for. Each of us has specific, and unique talents and skills that make us perfect to do His work here on earth. Let's identify and use them.
